We all need help at times, and many families have concerns and questions along the way. If you are looking for help finding quality child care, intervention services, medical coverage, food, housing, or other types of temporary assistance, the following supports may be available.
Many families struggle with finding and paying for child care. Make the best decisions when it comes to child care for your family through the supports below.
- Child Care Aware can create customized lists for you of provider openings in your area.
- You can search for a Kansas Head Start/Early Head Start program near you.
- You may be eligible for child care assistance or “subsidy” which helps cover the cost of certain kinds of child care. Learn more about the Kansas Child Care Assistance program, and apply through the Department for Children and Families.
- If you are a relative caring for a child, support and resource groups can be found statewide. Call 1-877-530-5275 to get connected.
Many working families, women, and children are eligible for services and don’t realize it.
- Through this self-service portal from the Kansas Department for Children and Families, you can learn about a variety of support services, check eligibility, locate your nearest service agency, and schedule an appointment.
- See if you qualify for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Learn more about how the WIC program works.
- KanCare supports pregnant women and families with children to receive the preventative services and screening they need. See if your family qualifies.
- If your family needs safe, affordable housing, the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation may be able to assist you.
If you have concerns about your child’s growth and development, be proactive and act early.
- Contact the Infant Toddler Services program for assessments of children birth to age 3 with potential developmental delays or disabilities.
- For mental health concerns contact the Kansas Association for Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health (KAIMH) or the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
- The Kansas Department of Health and Environment provides specialized medical services to infants, children, and youth up to age 21 who have eligible medical conditions.

Family Resource Centers are welcoming places in your community where families can find helpful support close to home. Each center offers services that fit local needs, often at little or no cost to you. Depending on your center, you may find things like parenting and early childhood programs, job skills training, or nutrition support—all designed to help your family thrive.
