Family Resource Centers are a great place to start. These welcoming community hubs connect families with resources, programs, and support to help them thrive.

Each center is a little different, but many offer free or low-cost services for parents, caregivers, and children. Whether you’re looking for support, information, or just a place to start, your local Family Resource Center is here to help. Family Resource Centers can help with things like:
- Support for Your Family | Get help with everyday needs like food, clothing, diapers, and housing. You can also find mental health support, parenting resources, and opportunities to connect with other families.
- Learning and Growing | Find programs that support your child’s development and school readiness. Some centers also offer help with job training, finding employment, and programs for teens.
- Finding Resources and Getting Connected | Not sure where to start? Staff can help you find and connect to services in your community, including child care, early childhood programs, and other local resources.
Family Resource Centers are part of a statewide effort to make sure families have access to the support they need. Centers work together to share helpful tools, training, and ideas so they can better serve families across Kansas.
Some Family Resource Centers have completed a certification that shows they meet high standards for supporting families. This means they focus on listening to families, building on family strengths, and working alongside you to find what works best for your family.

Family Resource Centers (FRCs) featured on this page are part of the Kansas Family Support Network, a statewide network led by the Kansas Children’s Service League. Kansas Family Support Network supports Family Resource Centers across Kansas by providing training, technical assistance, and opportunities for shared learning to strengthen services for children and families.
Many of the listed Family Resource Centers have earned the Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening and Support Certification, a nationally recognized framework that promotes high-quality, family-centered practices. This approach emphasizes partnering with families, building on strengths, and delivering responsive, community-based support.
Certification and training are available at no cost to Kansas-based Family Resource Centers, partners, funders, and parent leaders through the Kansas Children’s Service League.

Many families struggle with finding and paying for child care. Make the best decisions when it comes to child care for your family through the supports below.
- Child Care Aware can create customized lists for you of provider openings in your area.
- You can search for a Kansas Head Start/Early Head Start program near you.
- You may be eligible for child care assistance or “subsidy” which helps cover the cost of certain kinds of child care. Learn more about the Kansas Child Care Assistance program, and apply through the Department for Children and Families.
- If you are a relative caring for a child, support and resource groups can be found statewide. Call 1-877-530-5275 to get connected.
Many working families, women, and children are eligible for services and don’t realize it.
- Through this self-service portal from the Kansas Department for Children and Families, you can learn about a variety of support services, check eligibility, locate your nearest service agency, and schedule an appointment.
- See if you qualify for WIC (Women, Infants and Children) through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Learn more about how the WIC program works.
- KanCare supports pregnant women and families with children to receive the preventative services and screening they need. See if your family qualifies.
- If your family needs safe, affordable housing, the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation may be able to assist you.
If you have concerns about your child’s growth and development, be proactive and act early.
- Contact the Infant Toddler Services program for assessments of children birth to age 3 with potential developmental delays or disabilities.
- For mental health concerns contact the Kansas Association for Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health (KAIMH) or the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
- The Kansas Department of Health and Environment provides specialized medical services to infants, children, and youth up to age 21 who have eligible medical conditions.
